Only Wedding DJs Need Apply!

Insert obnoxious DJ name here.........

Weddings are a different animal from most other events. There are alot of moving pieces and activities that happen that make it more than just a party. That is why you definitely need a wedding DJ for your wedding. I can’t tell you how many weddings I have attended where the bride and groom picked a friend to DJ their wedding and it was a disaster. Let me tell you why:

1. YOUR FRIEND HAS NO IDEA WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN AT A WEDDING:

If your friend is a guy and doesn’t regularly DJ weddings he doesn’t know that he needs to announce things like the introduction of the wedding party, the first dance, parent dances and cake cutting. His attempts at this may be horrible if he is a club DJ because club DJs know how to do one thing very well and often at an event SELF PROMOTE. So you can see how that could not work on the day that is supposed to be all about the newlyweds.

2. YOUR DJ FRIEND DOESN’T KNOW TO COORDINATE AND COMMUNICATE WITH THE OTHER VENDORS:

Your DJ  friend definitely knows how to get and keep the partyg going but how is that gonna work out during the first course? At just the moment when your guests are sitting down to converse with the folks at their table, your DJ friend (who everyone knows by now because he says his name before and after every song) decides to unleash the hottest song on the radio right now. Everyone jumps up to dance for an hour only to return to a cold first course (assuming that it is even still there). Most real wedding djs know to play a more mellow selection of tunes during the times guests are eating so they can save the high energy tunes for long stretches of dance time.

3. YOUR DJ FRIEND CAME BY HIMSELF AND ONLY HAS ONE SET OF EQUIPMENT:

Most weddings require three sets of equipment, a ceremony setup, cocktail hour setup and reception setup. Along with those setups you normally need at least one extra set of hands. This is all to ensure that therre is a continuous flow to the entertainment during th wedding. You can see that there may be an issue if your DJ is late to the reception because he has to bring everything from the ceremony which took place in a park across town to the reception venue half an hour a way. You will not only be mad when he gets there late you will be further peeved to wait another hour for him to setup all over again.  A real wedding DJ will have all of this coordinated well in advance of the event ensure that he has enough staff and setups to get the job done.

These are just a couple of reasons why I would only trust my wedding to acertified tried and true wedding DJ. They know what to do and when to do it and if they are really good will make everyone’s job easier and ensure the Bride and Groom have the best wedding day ever!

  1. Christina,

Very well said. All of the points you brought up here are 100% true. The last thing a bride wants is to be disappointed on her big day. The key to a successful event is to hire wedding professionals that will work together to make the day flawless!
